ARTIST PROFILE
Glenda Morgan born in Sydney, Australia
Currently lives on the Sapphire Coast of Far Southern NSW.
Graduated from The National Art School, Sydney, BA (Fine Art),

As a VISUAL ARTIST her practice has centred on the experience of land, a powerful place of imagination and meditative calm for her. Trained as a Painter / Print Maker, Glenda has had a long and rewarding career in Painting, Contemporary Textile Design and Teaching Fine Arts since 1975. Glenda’s spontaneous layers of paint and her mark making have a life force of their own retaining the expressive nature of drawing with an energetic gestural character to incite curiosity.
‘My artworks invoke a visually emotional dynamic experience of the subtle and powerful beauty of the Australian landscape in all its variations from the archetypal Red Centre to the iconic Coastal Regions. By creating multilayered abstract paintings and collages I aim to represent an enduring Australian experience.’
Using paint (predominantly Gouache), and mixed media combined with Collage pieces from paintings she has already executed she creates a rich tapestry of unexpected shapes, colour and texture. This expressionistic accidental arrangement gives an intricate layering, fragmentation and disparate juxtapositions that surprise and endure continuous scrutiny. These new Assemblage Paintings come together as surprisingly complex stories with each painting adding up to a deep emotional relationship, linking a multitude of vistas of land experience.
They explore landscape, connection and memory in/whilst trying to understand journeys through the physical environment we all live in.
Landscape is built up as much from memory as from physical form and can be a repose for the senses by providing a meditative experience.
The work attempts to represent the experience when thought is temporarily suspended and the mind encounters ‘calm seeing’, a meditative state of personal awareness.
Glenda’s most recent exhibitions have explored specific locations where she has set up camp for periods of time.
