TEXTILES
Boutique Textile Design Career 1983 -2000
Working as an Artist / Designer outside the conventional textile design market, Glenda established Reptillia Art Design Studio and Reptillia Salon (Gallery).
In this period she began to forge a unique vision of Australian textile design for Interior Textile furnishings. This vision was one that drew on Australia’s cultural and natural environment and the multicultural icons of the Australian Landscape. Hers was a purist expression of the Australian identity but one that melded an eclectic assortment of elements from archetypal colour components to abstract layering of the Australian land its textures, images and flora. The technique of production where as innovative as the surface design challenging traditional ideas of pattern repeats and methods of printing, they became sophisticated painted sculptural furniture pieces which where often translated into commercial carpets and woven fabrics. This period saw her Textiles and related Artworks purchased and exhibited by Architects, Interior Designers and
Galleries Collections Nationally and Internationally.
Glenda had travelled through Asia to Japan and on to Europe studying and absorbing an eclectic mix of influences from the art and textile traditions. On her return she was determined to acknowledge and celebrate Australia’s unique environment in vibrant colour assemblage paintings and innovative contemporary furnishing textile design.
